Dustin Teager

Age: 28 | State: | County: Sonoma | Case Status: Closed

  • Dustin was a great kid with a big heart. When he was 15, he was in a car accident and required back surgery. The doctor prescribed opiates for pain and that is where his problem started. He became addicted then he was cut off from his meds without being properly weaned off of them, so he turned to the streets. When the pills became too expensive, he turned to heroin because it was cheaper and more accessible. This went on for quite some time despite my, and our family’s exhausted efforts to help him. Finally he came to the end of his rope and went to live with my sister in Hawaii when he turned 28 to get away from his influences. For 9 months he worked hard to battle his addiction and finally achieved his goal of sobriety. Through the efforts of my sister and the doctors he had there, he finally achieved his goal and was opiate free. He came home for a short visit to prepare for his return when he completed his treatment the following month. I saw him for the first time in 9 months, and he looked better than I’d ever seen him look as an adult. No signs of any drug use at all. I had my son back and I was ecstatic. He left my home to get his girlfriend some clothes and said he would be back in a while. Somewhere between my house and the hotel he died in, he got a Xanax that was laced with fentanyl and it killed him. The police said they would do all they could to find out who gave him this poison and hold them accountable for murder. But as it goes with so many people with his history, the police explained it away. They said that the leads they followed, his cell phone information, his girlfriends statements, all led nowhere. In my mind, they saw his history and chalked it up to another addict who got what they deserved for using illegal drugs; not someone who fought so hard to beat his demons and was murdered for his efforts. I grieve his loss daily and try my best to help and support other parents who have been devastated by this weapon of mass destruction that is polluting our country and killing our children in record numbers.
